Aluminum responds and vibrates differently than zinc, allowing the guitar’s top to resonate more freely, transfer string energy more efficiently, and deliver the open, woody sustain that defines a true vintage instrument.

Most modern Gibson guitars come fitted with heavier zinc tailpieces that can subtly dampen resonance. At approximately 1.2 oz, this lightweight aluminum tailpiece is less than half the weight of a typical zinc unit—making it one of the simplest and most effective upgrades for improving clarity, responsiveness, and overall liveliness.
