We're proud to bring back one of the most defining — and often overlooked — details of a true vintage instrument. The RetroSpec Exclusive Series M69 Pickup Rings are crafted with exacting attention to original late-'50s specifications, capturing the subtle character that shaped the look and feel of iconic Les Paul, ES, and Custom models.

Not all pickup rings are created equal. Most modern reproductions are made from ABS plastic — a rigid, inert material that bears little resemblance to what Gibson used in the 1950s. Original M69 rings were molded from CAB (Cellulose Acetate Butyrate), a softer, more pliable material with a distinctive feel and even a subtle scent. CAB conforms naturally to a carved maple top without cracking and ages over time, developing the character associated with vintage instruments.

Our rings are made from genuine CAB and formed to vintage-correct dimensions, including proper edge profile, curvature, and proportions. This version is produced in black CAB — the correct choice for Les Paul Custom builds and any instrument with a black plastics set.

Each set includes one tall (bridge) and one short (neck) ring, built within tight tolerances for proper fit and alignment. These are the same style rings used on Historic Makeovers and RDS builds, where accuracy down to the smallest detail matters.

Two ways to own them — NOS and Aged.

Choose NOS (New Old Stock) and you get the set clean and correct in genuine black CAB, ready to install.

Choose Aged, and each set is hand-worked in our shop by Historic Makeovers — the same aging craft we bring to our own high-end builds. This is real handwork, one ring at a time: we shape them, roll the edges, and take each piece through files, sanding, polishing, and buffing until it carries the softened profile and settled look of a true worn ring. Because every set is worked by hand, no two are ever alike — the rings you receive carry their own character and can't be reproduced.
