RetroSpec Exclusive Series No-Wire ABR-1 Les Paul Bridge - Nickel

The ABR-1 is the bridge that defined the Les Paul Standard through its most celebrated years — and on the originals from that era, it had no retaining wire. That small piece of hardware came later. The early ABR-1 bridges held their saddles by fit and string tension alone.

Our No-Wire ABR-1 is built to that original specification: brass saddles, nickel plated, and left un-notched — and that last part is deliberate.

We leave the saddles un-notched on purpose. On a proper setup, string slots aren't cut to a generic spacing — they're cut to align each string with the pole pieces of your pickups, so every string sits directly over its magnet and reads evenly. That spacing varies from guitar to guitar. It's a step we take on every ABR-1 we install at Historic Makeovers, and we leave these blank so you (or your tech) can do the same: slot them to your instrument, your pickups, your gauges. It's a small thing that separates a bridge that's just bolted on from one that's actually set up right.

The no-wire design is correct for any Burst-era build, and it's what lets the bridge sit and breathe the way the originals do. Available in NOS for a clean, just-installed look, or hand-aged in our shop for an instrument that already has some history in it.
