We're proud to offer what is widely considered one of the most accurate recreations of a late-'50s truss rod cover available today. Built with uncompromising attention to original construction methods, this piece captures a subtle but defining detail that most reproductions overlook.

On original 1959 Les Pauls, the truss rod cover carried a subtle rolled texture across its surface — and there's a reason for it. Back then, the sheet stock was produced and stored in rolls. When it was flattened for use, that process left fine, characteristic marks across the surface. Those subtle rolling marks are exactly what give an original its unique interaction with light. It's a small thing, but one that immediately sets vintage examples apart.

Our Exclusive Series version recreates those marks faithfully — not the flat, uniform surface of a standard reproduction. It's a subtle, visual detail, and it delivers an authenticity that most reproductions simply overlook.

Each cover is produced to vintage-correct specifications, including the proper bell-shaped profile and traditional two-ply construction with a black body and cream/white border. The result is a piece that not only looks right but stays true to the original in every way.

Two ways to own it — NOS and Aged.

Choose NOS (New Old Stock) and you get the cover clean and correct, ready to install.

Choose Aged, and each cover is hand-aged in our shop by Historic Makeovers — the same aging craft we bring to our own high-end restorations. We work every piece by hand, one at a time: easing the edges and settling the surface the way decades of honest playing would. Because each cover is treated individually, no two are ever alike — the piece you receive carries its own character and can't be reproduced.

That's the distinction. NOS gives you a correct cover. Aged gives you that same cover, hand-aged by Historic Makeovers — one at a time, no two alike.

This is the same style truss rod cover trusted on Historic Makeovers and RDS builds — now available individually for those who demand the highest level of vintage accuracy.

Experience the details most others miss — only from RetroSpec.
